About Me

I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (San Diego) and am a licensed psychologist in the state of California (PSY 19870).  I also received a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1991, and completed a post-graduate diploma course in psychoanalytic theories at the California Psychoanalytic Society. I have taken additional trainings to work with couples and have seen much benefit in using Relational Life Therapy (RLT) with couples. 

Cross-Cultural Experience

I was born and raised in the South of the Netherlands (Limburg). I had a keen interest to travel and study which led to studying abroad and getting my Bachelor of Science in psychology from Colorado State. I then went on to complete my Doctoral program in Clinical Psychology in the Netherlands. I moved to Singapore and worked there as a psychologist for eight years, and gained extensive experience working as a therapist with the multicultural Singaporean population (Chinese, Indian, Malay, and Eurasian Singaporeans). I provided frequent presentations and was often interviewed by local newspapers, magazines, and news programs. My experience living and working in Europe, Asia, and the US have provided me with a rich appreciation and unique understanding of diverse cultural and developmental backgrounds.

I am fluent in English, Dutch, German, and Castilian Spanish.  I also speaks a Southern Dutch dialect (Limburgs). I do not speak Mandarin but understand some of Chinese Culture family values.

Work History

My work experience includes inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, community mental health centers, and private practices. I have also taught graduates and undergraduates. 

Supervisory Experience

I have worked extensively in administrative and supervisory roles in community mental health centers in California. I have supervised both  pre- and post-graduate Psychology students. Additionally, I have worked with seasoned as well as recently licensed therapists.
